Genomic Estimated Breeding Values US Female R301

Background

Part of modern day animal breeding is the assessment of the production value of livestock by using Estimated Breeding Value (EBVs). Selection of breeding animals with superior EBVs in growth rate, egg, meat, milk, or wool production, or other desirable traits has revolutionized livestock production throughout the world. Commonly, EBVs are calculated using statistics such as best linear unbiased prediction. In recent years, genetic data based on DNA has been added to the EBV calculations. Phenotypical traits have been related to segments of DNA, making the genetic data a predictive model for the performance of an animal. These so-called genomic EBVs are indicated as genomic EBVs or gEBVs. VHLGenetics is now able to offer the statistical calculations needed to generate gEBVs through its partner the American organization Council of Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB). This test allows for the assessment (calculations) of US-based gEBVs, commonly known as GTPI.
