Quality Gene LDHA Pigeons B912

Background

In 2006, Polish researchers identified genetic variation linked to elevated homing performance. Genetic variation was identified in the LDHA gene. In humans, the lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA) gene is involved in the lactic acid metabolism. Therefore, the effect of this gene may be linked to an improved clearance of lactic acid during exercise. The favourable allele was most prevalent in the top-racing animals. The DNA test enables the process of selection for the LDHA genetic variation.
